A West Cumbrian hotel hosted six Olympic athletes when they faced a nerve-racking Lake District challenge as part of a new Sky TV series.

The Olympians stayed at the Melbreak Hotel, near Great Clifton, during filming for Mission Mudder, a six-part series currently being shown on Sky Sports Mix, which features the stars taking on some of the most gruelling endurance courses around.

The show features Welsh taekwondo star and double gold medallist Jade Jones, former World and European indoor 400m champion Perri Shakes-Drayton, cycling's world silver medallist Jess Varnish, snowboarder Aimee Fuller, judoka Ashley McKenzie and Commonwealth Games 75kg boxing champion Anthony Fowler.

Athletes took to Honister Slate Mine to embark upon the attraction's Infinity Bridge, the longest of its type in Britain, which is strung across a gorge 2,000ft above the valley floor.

Filming for the show took place in March.

Caroline Hughes, manager at the Melbreak Hotel, said: "We were originally approached by a booking agency to see if we had rooms available.

"We knew the guests were Olympians but we didn't know who until nearer the time. We had to keep it under wraps as the programme wasn't going to be aired for a while.

"We were delighted to host them. Staff said they were charming people and were excited for what was ahead.

"They just stayed the one night before they headed off to Honister the next day.

"It was very exciting to see the hotel on TV - there was a good shot of them going in the hotel. They were also filmed having a drink in the dining room and Perri did a video diary in one of our rooms."

You can catch the Olympians on Sky Sports Mix every Tuesday at 7pm until August 22.
