Plans have been revealed to turn the first and second floor of a Workington town centre home into three bedsits.
Peter Caunce has applied to Allerdale council for the project on the two floors above Swags And Tails, on Fisher Street.
The bedsits would be suitable for single people but one of them could accommodate up to two people.
But Workington Town Council, who was consulted by Allerdale on the plans, recommended the project for refusal.
In its response, it said: "Councillors considered the plans for a three bedsit conversion. Concerns were raised about the over development and the lack of car parking facilities in the area surrounding Fisher Street.
"The committee also noted that there was no fire escape for bedsits. On this basis councillors recommend refusal."
Cumbria Highways said it had no objections to the plans.
People will have a chance to comment on the application until Friday.
