An immense Great North Run effort from an Egremont accountant is still bringing in funds for the Lifeboat Appeal.

Wayne Fox, 30, has been a volunteer treasurer for Workington RNLI since 2013 and tackled the run last month in just over two hours.

He said: “I found the whole experience really breathtaking.

“This was the first half-marathon event I’ve ever done and as soon as I arrived waiting for the start, the whole place was rocking – complete party atmosphere.

“A few friends I know who’ve completed the run before said to me to not worry about the time but just to soak in the atmosphere and the whole experience, including the members of the Geordie public cheering you on.

“What I felt was an inadvertent nice touch was starting the run and finished with Mark Knopfler’s Going Home blaring out from the PA system – so much that I was overwhelmed, along with running over the Tyne Bridge.”

Wayne has completed challenges for Workington RNLI before and started running to lose weight for his wedding – so he signed up for the Great North Run to push himself.

He said: “I really enjoyed the experience despite not completing it in under the two hours I aimed for because of the masses of people trying to get through but I enjoyed it so much that I’ve already pre-registered for next year’s run.”

Wayne has raised more than £350 for the appeal.
