Rocking for ME is taking on a new cause this month when members raise the roof at a Maryport club.

Grasslot Working Men's Sports and Social Club in Maryport needs a new roof.

Karen Little, of the ME and Fibro North West Cumbria Support Group, said the Grasslot club has been the venue for its annual fund-raising one-day festival Rocking for ME.

She said: "We just felt that the club has done a lot for us over the years and now we would like to do something back."

She and fellow group member, Mike Ellis, have organised an event for Friday October 30.

Entertainment will be provided by mainly local artists, including MT Arms, Ex Lepers, Jodie Leigh, Darren Hoey and Just Steve.

Club chairman, Peter Mitchell, said the new roof will cost around £11,000.

He added: "We have the money in hand but we are obviously grateful for donations."

Several sports teams including senior and junior rugby and football are run from the club.

He said the buildings were prefabricated, which were erected around 30 or 40 years ago.

He added: "They have lasted longer than we thought but we really need a new roof."

It is one of the largest venues in Maryport.
