A Cockermouth apprentice ranger has created a new walk for visitors to the Keswick area.

Leila Todhunter, 28, is an Academy Ranger, a National Trust initiative to support young people aiming for a career in countryside management.

Her two-year placement will equip her with the skills to work in the conservation sector.

She has created a circular 1¾-mile route which starts from the National Trust car park at Great Wood, climbing through the wood below Walla Crag, with gaps through the trees on the top path giving views out over Bassenthwaite and Derwentwater.

Leila said she came up with the walk in response to demand from visitors looking for a walk nearby that they can do without a map.

She will create a further six waymarked walks in the area over autumn.
