A mother and daughter will take on the Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walk this weekend in memory of Workington man Bill Ferris who died five years ago.

Bill’s daughter Barbara Watson, 60, of Milburn Croft, Seaton, and granddaughter Emily Campbell, 28, of Murraydale Terrace, Workington, will take part in the event in Carlisle tomorrow.

Mr Ferris was the subject of a book, The Bill Ferris Memoirs, compiled by his children Danny, Alan and Barbara who found a large number of handwritten notes.

Bill, a former mining manager, experienced dementia in the five years before his death.

Barbara said: “He was a hard-working, intelligent and strong man so to see how this terrible disease changed him was difficult for all of us.”

The walk starts in Bitts Park before following a circular route which takes in the River Eden and people can do either a 1.5k or a 6k route.
