A village's Rotary club has raised more than £900 for charity.

Bassenthwaite Rotary Club held a competition in Sainsbury’s supermarket in Cockermouth earlier this year.

It asked shoppers to guess the time of the winning goal in the final of Euro 2016. More than £900 was raised.

The club chose to donate £500 to Sainsbury’s charity, the special care baby unit at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven and £400 will be split between other local charities.

More than 900 people took part in the competition, but it was won by club president Warwick Bailey. Mr Bailey chose to donate his prize, an £100 Sainsbury’s giftcard, to the North Lakes Foodbank.
