Seaton Academy has unveiled a tribute to a popular lollipop man who died in February.

Alec Hall, 77, worked at the school for more than 20 years and was well-known in Seaton.

Teachers asked pupils how they would like to pay tribute to Alec and children remembered his uniform and sign the most.

It was then decided that a plaque made using the top of a lollipop would be made and a planter with flowers has also been installed.

Wendy Durham, assistant headteacher, said: "All the children knew him and loved him.

"He knew their names and took an interest in them when they were crossing the road.

"When the children and parents come to school there's a permanent reminder of how important he was and how he's missed."

The planter and plaque have been put up by the school gates as close to the zebra crossing as possible.

Alec had four children - Wendy, Ian, David and Ninna - and several grandchildren.

Daughter Wendy said: "Thank you to the school for their recognition of how special he was. I'm sure he's missed by everyone in the village.

"He was a special person. Everybody knew him."
