A group of Seaton scouts raised almost £800 to build a new hut for the group.

The 10 Explorer Scouts, aged between 10 and 14, organised a quiz night at the village's Royal British Legion Club at the weekend.

Ian Chambers, group scout leader, said: "I'm proud of them, they did everything themselves.

"It's all part of a wider project, but the children wanted to take the lead on organising something."

The club, which is now based at a building near the village hall, wants to build a new hut, which would cost around £250,000.

Mr Chambers said: "We're about a quarter of the way, we've been fund-raising for a while and we've still got a long way to go but we'll be working towards it in the next few months.

"The building we have now is old, it's past its sell by date and we need to replace it.

"We get a lot of support from local business, but we'd like to put the word out there that we'd still like to hear from businesses who would like to get involved."
