Five swimmers have raised over £2,000 for local charity, Team Evie.

The money will go towards a ventilator for the physiotherapy team at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where baby Evie Johnston spent most of her life.

Parents Jill and Greg set up the charity when Evie died last September at only six months old from a variety of complex conditions.

Her parents, along with many supporters, have been working ever since, trying to make sure that her life mattered.

The couple have raised thousands of pounds to help other parents and sick children both while in hospital or when they come home.

The latest challenge by friends and Evie's aunt, Emma Ivison, was to take part in the Great North Swim on Windermere.

The group had already raised over £2,000 before they got in the water, Jill said.

"The ventilator will cost £3,000 and even though the swim is over there is still time to donate," Information can be found at www.teamevie.org
