Maryport has been thanked for the way it received the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment to the town in May.
The regiment was given the freedom of the town in an event organised by the town council.
In a letter to the town council, Brigadier Peter Rafferty praised town clerks, Paul Bramley and Lisa Douglas.
He said: “They approached the event with enthusiasm and imagination.
“Their thoroughness and attention to detail in planning an organising the day was rewarded with a flawless occasion.
"In particular, Lisa seemed to be everywhere on the day, ensuring that all went smoothly.”
He said the soldiers who took part were immensely proud to march through Maryport.
He added: “They were overwhelmed by the genuine warmth of the greeting they received from the community watching the parade and greatly enjoyed the civic reception that followed.
“Perhaps most important to all was that all ranks could see the lengths Maryport had gone to in making sure everyone had such a great day.
"We are very proud and grateful to have received the freedom of the town and look forward to revisiting you from time to time as our commitments will allow.”
