Do not be alarmed at the sight of 2,000 plastic ducks floating down the River Cocker on Saturday.

Cockermouth Duck Race is back.

The race, which is organised by Cockermouth Round Table to raise money for the Girlguiding Derwent Division, will take place on the stretch of the river between the Greenway Bridge and South Street footbridge.

The first race will be for giant, multi-coloured ducks sponsored by businesses.

The main race will then see thousands of numbered ducks make a splash.

Round Table members had to race downstream last year to catch some ducks which had slipped through the net at the finish, so this year they have borrowed a boom from the Environment Agency.

The duck race used to be held every year in the Memorial Gardens but had a break after the 2009 floods.
It was relaunched last year.

Tickets for the ducks can be bought from Veeva, RTSN Huddart Supplies and The Cockermouth Paper Shop.

Last year's event raised £1,500.
