The chairman of Workington and District Twinning Association will leave the committee after over 25 years.

Margaret Jones, 76, of Queen Street, wants to see new faces and ideas put into the project.

She will formally resign at the group's annual general meeting on June 9.

She said: "I'd love to see new members. Just because we've done things in a certain way for the past 20 years, it doesn't mean they have to carry on that way. I want the committee to be free to do things differently.

"I wouldn't give up twinning for the world, but I'm 76 and I'm still involved with St Michael's Church which takes up quite a bit of time."

Margaret has been chairman of the group for around seven years.

Workington is twinned with Selm in Germany and with Val De Reuil in France.

This year they are celebrating 20 years of twinning with the French town.

She said: "With twinning you make friends for life. People get a bit anxious about having people staying with them, but twinning is great fun. I have as many people on my Christmas cards list in Germany and France as I have in Britain. I would definitely encourage people to come along to the annual general meeting."

The meeting will take place at 7pm at the Helena Thompson Museum, Park End Road, Workington.
