With over 300 entries and a large public turnout, the fourth Flimby Village Show was one of the best.

Spokesman Alan Saunders said he had not counted the number of people who went in for a look last Sunday, “but we raised £64 in door takings. We were only charging 50p for entry and children were free so that gives you a good idea.”

He said the ugly vegetables were another attraction for the public.

He said around 45 people from ages four to in their eighties were responsible for the 300 entries.

The overall winner was Evelyn Varty who won the vegetable, fruit, flowers and best in show.

Other winners were: Eggs – David Marr; home baking – Jan Kirkpatrick; preserves and jams – Linda Mumberson; hanging baskets: Geordi Tinnion; overall children’s winner – Ethan Haskett.
