Volunteers have saved a West Cumbrian carnival just days after it looked like being cancelled.
Gary Hampson, the man in charge of health and safety for the resurrected Maryport carnival, warned on Thursday that the event on July 8 faced a last-minute cancellation because there were not enough volunteers to marshal the route.
He said police would not allow it to proceed if there were not enough stewards to make it safe.
An appeal through the Times & Star and social media, however, has saved the day.
Mr Hampson said a few more volunteers were needed but with what he described as "a rush" over the weekend, it was now certain the Maryport carnival would go ahead as planned.
It is the town's first carnival for several years.
The carnival procession will begin at 1pm on Saturday, July 8. It will go from Fleming Square, down Wood Street to Curzon Street then up Senhouse Street to the Wave Centre on Irish Street.
Activities including a fairground will be held on the Irish Street car park.
