A West Cumbrian man was among the first British troops to deliver aid to the US Virgin Islands following the devastation of Hurricane Irma.
Charlie Cubby, 23, of Seaton, is a logistics mover in the Royal Air Force.
He said: "We were the first aircraft to arrive in Barbados and then the first to deliver aid into the American Virgin Islands.
"I was on a task up in America but I got redirected down on Friday making us first here."
The serviceman, who is normally based at RAF Brize Norton, said he had not yet been given a date to return to the UK.
He added: "We've got people working 24/7 to get the aircraft in the air with aid and accepting freight from the UK. The troops arrive about 250 at a time."
