Instructors at Maryport’s Wave Centre used Clip 'n Climb to raise over £400 for Comic Relief.

Dave Topliss, Michael Davies, Steven James and Ben Wright climbed 11,000 ft between them - the equivalent of the height and depth of some of Africa's most famous landmarks. This included the depth of the Kimberley Diamond Mines, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Fish River Canyon, and the height of the Victoria Falls, Great Pyramid of Giza, the four 20m statues of the Abu Simbel, the Edfu Temple, the hand of Fatima, Limestone Chimney of Lake Abbe, the Sphinx and the Tugela Falls.

Wave spokeswoman Catherine Coulson said the climb, along with a prize draw and a cake stall, raised a total of £436.91.

Elsewhere, eight students on the Just the Job programme at Lakes College, Lillyhall, raised £290.11.

The group, which provides work placements and the opportunity for qualifications to students with vulnerabilities, organised activities including a cake sale, raffle, tombola and a pie the principal event.

They also got other students involved, with people in the beauty department painting nails in Comic Relief colours and making lip balm, while the catering department made and sold soup.

Morrisons provided a food hamper for the raffle.

Kayleigh Toman, 19, from Maryport, says, ‘We did really well getting everyone else involved. We couldn’t have done it without the help and support of our tutor."
