The winners of this year's Workington in Bloom competition have been revealed.

Ian and Anne Ferguson, 67 and 70, of Poole Road, Salterbeck, Jean and John Hope, 67 and 69, of Grasmere Avenue, and Linda and Malcolm Donnan of Curwendale, Stainburn, were the three couples given prizes for the best domestic premises.

The best commercial premises prize was awarded to the Brewery House of Main Road, Harrington.

The winners were announced at a prize-giving event at Workington Town Hall and they were presented by Workington mayor Joan Wright.

The winners of the best domestic premise category were awarded a gardening voucher worth £100 and the winner of the best commercial premise was awarded a trophy.

Mr Ferguson said: "I'm thrilled to bits. I've always been passionate about my garden.

"It's lovely to get some recognition and we do it mainly for our own pleasure. We're delighted to get a certificate for our hard work."

Mrs Hope said: "I'm really pleased. We won last year too, but it was a nice surprise.

"We do our hanging baskets every year and it's nice to get another prize."

The competition takes place every year with winners selected based on the quality of their hanging baskets or on the quality of the floral displays in their gardens.
