A Workington girl had the honour of tossing the coin at a major rugby league game.

Emily Shutt, six, of Railbank Drive, tossed the coin at the Wigan Warriors vs Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks match on Sunday.

Emily's family were approached by a Wigan player on social media network Twitter offering the opportunity to the youngster, who has been fighting leukaemia for five years.

Mum Helen, dad Martyn and brother Alfie, nine, went with Emily to the game.

Helen said: "It was a brilliant day, we were treated in a lovely way.
"Emily was great at tossing the coin and she was even a bit cheeky because she asked to keep it.

"They told her it was okay and she came back with the £2 coin.

"Alfie was so excited to meet the players and have his picture taken with them.

"Martyn is going to do a collage with all the pictures and frame it with Emily's coin in the middle so we have a memory of the day.

"Both kids really got into rugby and want to follow the games now."

The family have created Emily's Journey, where they tell Emily's story and raise awareness of childhood cancer through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Helen added she was happy that the Wigan Warriors helped them raise awareness of Emily's story.
