The presents have been packed away and the Christmas trees have come down – but these children were still enjoying the festive feeling.

There was a fun-filled atmosphere when more than 80 youngsters packed out Ewanrigg and Netherton Community Centre, in Ennerdale Road, Maryport.

They gathered for the annual belated Christmas party organised by Ewanrigg and Netherton Tenants and Residents Association (Entra) – and the place was rocking.

Children enjoyed two hours of fun from entertainer Lee Towers and every one of them was given a party bag and a present from Father Christmas, donated by the Maryport-based company Mears.

Bill Barnes, of Entra, who has organised the free event for the past six years, said: “We just do everything we possibly can for the kids.

“We don’t do it before Christmas because there’s so much going on anyway and this gives them something to look forward to after Christmas.

“It’s built up every year. It’s just fantastic.

“The key to it all is Lee Towers. He’s such a brilliant entertainer, we just book him every year. He’s awesome with the kids.

“They were absolutely burnt out by the time they went home.”

Bill’s wife Sharon added: “Christmas is over and it’s a bit flat so we always do this one, then an adult one. It’s just to bring everyone together.

“It’s for anyone who lives on the estate and it also gives us a chance to highlight what else we do.

“It’s fun and exciting.”

Entra organises a number of fundraisers throughout the year to ensure the party goes ahead and lives up to previous years.

Eva Mason, 12, of Crosby Villa, who has been to the party for the past three years, was not disappointed.

She said: “It’s been really cool.

“Over the holidays we’ve been doing loads of activities but it’s a time for all the community to come together and celebrate what we’ve had in the past year and all the Christmas joys.

“It’s to meet friends and bring the community together.

“Lee has been amazing part of the Christmas parties.

“He brings fun and laugher.”

Leah Ackerly, eight, enjoyed pumping balls up and wrapping Bill in toilet paper.
