Nearly eight months of hard work will reach its conclusion next week as junior members of Workington and District Amateur Musical Society take to the stage in Fame The Musical.

The society's Next Generation group began rehearsals in January for the show, which runs at the Carnegie Theatre from Wednesday to Saturday next week.

Beginning with Tuesday night rehearsals to learn full company songs, the team then added Wednesday sessions for principal actors.

June brought Thursday sessions for dancers.

From July rehearsals on Sundays were added, with the cast all joining together on both Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Research included a cast trip to Whitley Bay to see Longbenton Community College's production of the show.

In August it was time to give potential audiences a sneak preview of the show and the group organised a flash mob in Workington town centre to showcase their work.

The production has not been without its hiccups, with three cast changes due to members pulling out of the show, but the 24-strong cast are almost ready for curtain up.

Daniel MacCreedy, director, said: "These kids are truly amazing and show such maturity working with a show with such strong and mature themes. We hope to sell out every night because that's what the cast deserve."

The show is at 7.30pm each night. Tickets are £11 each or £40 for a family of four, available on 01900 602122 or www.carnegietheatre.co.uk
