A MARYPORT woman died after a history of alcohol abuse, an inquest heard on Tuesday.

Andrea Motum, 31, of Bounty Avenue, had been battling with alcohol problems for years.

Her body was found on September 23 by her partner Andrew Huddart, the morning after she complained of kidney and liver pains.

Witnesses said that she had always had a problem with alcohol.

Her doctor said she went to see him about her alcohol problems in 2003. At the time she was having up to 12 cans of lager a day.

She took part in a detoxification programme and he did not hear about her alcohol problem again until June 2007 when she said she had been drinking heavily again.

He said that when he saw her in August she said she was not motivated to stop drinking.

Mr Huddart said that on Saturday morning, September 22, she wasn’t feeling well and had pains in her kidneys and liver and he called an ambulance.

John Taylor, West Cumbria coroner, said: “She had been drinking from an early age and was in relationships and the partners consumed alcohol. That didn’t enable her to get away from her problems.

“II am satisfied that her health problems arose due to alcohol consumption.”

He said Miss Motum died from cirrhosis of the liver caused by her alcohol consumption. She suffered an internal haemorrhage and associated gastric problems.

He recorded a verdict of death from alcohol dependence.
