Georgian style wedding for couple

Cockermouth's Wordsworth House stepped back in time as it hosted a Georgian-style wedding for two former workers.
Nick Trustram Eve, a professional food historian, and Suzi Richer, an archaeologist, used to work at the Main Street property and decided they wanted it as the venue for their nuptials.
Nick said: “It went fantastically. The Wordsworth House team was beyond belief, amazing in their organisation and in helping us. It was a real homecoming.”
Preparations did not get off to a great start when Nick, who lives in Worcestershire, realised he had left his specially-made waistcoat at home. House staff came to his rescue with an authentic Georgian waistcoat.
The ceremony was held in the drawing room in front of 40 guests, as a harpsichord played.
There were more than 10 house staff there, who all chose to wear authentic clothes.
But Alex Morgan, communications manager, attended in 1950s costume.
She said: “Georgian would be too much of a busman’s holiday for me!”
Guests were treated to a medieval reception, including music, canapes, crockery and wedding breakfast, in the National Trust’s ancient barn at Dunthwaite House at Setmurthy.
The menu included dried venison, gravlax and roast Herdwick from Buttermere.
Nick said: “I enforced medieval eating customs where people use spoons or their fingers. It worked well, and even my mother did it!”
The couple took part in the ancient tradition of there being two cakes, one each for the bride and groom – with the groom breaking his over the bride’s head.
Nick added: “It sounds worse than it is as cakes were drier in those days. A napkin is spread over the bride’s head and the cake is crumbled over it. The crumbs are distributed among the unmarried women who put them under the pillow and dream of their future husband.”
