Headliners revealed for Maryport Blues Festival

Headliners of the 2013 Maryport Blues Festival have been revealed.

English rock guitarist Bernie Marsden will headline the three-day event from July 26 to July 28.

Marsden, formerly of Whitesnake and UFO, leads a bill of UK musicians as Maryport celebrates British blues.

Blues guitarist, singer and songwriter Ian Parker will put his old band Parker’s Project back together to headline the Sunday night.

Friday’s headliner will be Aynsley Lister who delivers contemporary soul of blues.

This year will also see a return to a marquee and there are also plans for an outdoor stage, still to be confirmed, but expected to be near the centre of the town.

Sue Sandham, of Maryport Festivals Limited, which organises the festival, said: “We have listened to what people have said and we are trying to provide them with what they want.”

There will still be camping available at Netherhall Rugby Club but the main marquee will be at Maryport Rugby Club on Mealpot Road which provided a popular outdoor stage last year.

The artists have been chosen as a result of surveys from previous festivals, the festival website and social networking website Facebook.

The result is a line-up which includes young new faces, some old favourites and a big headline name in Marsden.

Confirmed marquee acts are Solway Deltas, Lewis Hamilton, Blues n Trouble and Aynsley Lister on Friday night.

Saturday will kick off in the afternoon with Lucy Zirins, Bore Bones Boogie Band and Jo Harmon. They are followed, in the evening, by Baba Jack, King King and Bernie Marsden.

Sunday’s gigs will include Blues Beaten, Dove and Boweevil.

The afternoon’s entertainment will conclude with Albany Down who Maryport festival goers voted gig of the year last year.

The final concert, on Sunday night, starts with Blue Swamp.

Irishman Pat McManus will be next with his repertoire of music by heroes including Gary Moore and Rory Gallagher and the event will end with Ian Parker.

Local bands can compete to perform on the same bill as The Quireboys during the festival in a battle of the bands competition, which starts later this month.

Tickets will go on sale next month at venues to be announced.

There will be a special early bird tickets offer this year, with a limited number of tickets selling at £55 which will include all-weekend access to the marquee and a trail wristband.
