Maryport Roman museum men step down

The chairman of the Senhouse Roman Museum Trust has announced his plan to retire from the role.
Peter Greggains has served on the trust for around 30 years and has been chairman for the past seven.
Mr Greggains said: “I have been privileged to chair the trust during a period of substantial progress. The Roman site has been acquired and made available for research and, thanks to the generosity of benefactor Graham Harris, who gave a £1 million legacy to the trust, it has been able to fund a programme of excavation on the site by Newcastle University which has already yielded remarkable results.”
He said that more than 100,000 people had visited the Maryport museum since it opened in 1990.
He added: “I look forward to the continued success of the trust, building on sound foundations and the determination, skill and commitment of trustees, staff and volunteers.”
Trust treasurer Hugh Thomson is also retiring after 20 years in post.
Mr Thomson has never been a trustee but has been a dedicated museum volunteer for many years.
