Two young women from the Maryport area are busy raising money for charity as they vie for the title of Miss Cumbria.
Natasha Wilson, 20, of Solway Avenue, Flimby, a teaching assistant at Workington’s Northside School, has baked nearly 270 cakes with help from her mother Estelle Kent and grandmother Betty Kent to support the contest’s chosen charity Variety.
She has sold them through Northside School and Richmond Hill School in Aspatria as well as to friends.
Meanwhile, Danielle Dover, 18, of Camp Road, Maryport, who is studying social work at the University of Cumbria, has been raising money through the sponsorship of local businesses including Her Citi, Jazz Hair Salon, Elegant Touch, the Fireplace Centre and Iggesund.
She has also made and sold Christmas cards and held a coffee morning at Her Citi in Maryport.
The final of the Miss Cumbria competition will be held at Carlisle College this weekend.
The public has the opportunity to vote for the most popular candidate until 11.59pm tonight.
