Queen’s special note to West Cumbrian boy

Normally you would expect a birthday card from the Queen when you reach 100, but one Maryport boy this week received a Royal message for his seventh birthday.
Alfie Wallace, of Ennerdale Road, turns seven tomorrow – the same day as the Queen turns 86. Alfie decided he would send the Queen a birthday card to let her know about their connection.
He sent it on April 10 and got a reply on behalf of the Queen on Tuesday, thanking him for the card and wishing him a very happy day.
Nicola Wallace, 35, Alfie’s mum, said: “We weren’t expecting to get anything back and we put it to the back of our minds.
“We were thrilled. Alfie hugged me so tight I could hardly breathe.
“He was so excited he couldn’t sleep that night.”
He got the idea when watching a quiz show with his family and a question came up asking who celebrated their birthday on April 21.
Alfie hadn’t realised he shared his special day with the Queen and decided to write a letter which said: “My name is Alfie Wallace and my birthday is April 21st just like yours.
“I would like to wish you a very happy birthday, and I hope you get lots of lovely gifts.
“I will think of you as I open my gifts and share my dinosaur cake with my brother, sister and cousins.”
