Super slimmer from Flimby tells of her new life

A Flimby woman, who became too afraid to leave home after miscarrying two babies, has told of how losing weight and joining a slimming club have changed her life.
Nicky Thornbarrow, who lost four stones when she joined the Slimming World club, said she was now so confident that she will hold her first meeting for the club in Maryport tomorrow.
Nicky, 38, of Brook Street, had difficulty getting pregnant and took five years to conceive.
She lost two babies, one at 20 weeks. She then lost her job when Cumbria Seafoods moved to the North East, and said she was so depressed that she sat home and ate.
She said: “I just ate for comfort and the weight issues meant it was even harder to become pregnant.”
When she finally did become pregnant after undergoing a new procedure, she said she could not believe that she would carry the baby full term.
She added: “I was terrified to do anything. Until I had a 4D scan I really did not believe that I would have a baby. By the time Libby-Mae was born three years ago I had become so reclusive I was almost agoraphobic. I couldn’t leave the house – so again I sat and ate.”
She said her husband Sean persuaded her to take Libby-Mae, who was then one-year old, to visit a zoo.
Nicky said: “We went and she loved it, but I realised how much she was missing out on because of me. I decided then and there that I had to do something. That was a Sunday. On Monday a leaflet from Slimming World was posted through my letterbox.”
She said that going to the first meeting was frightening but she has never looked back.
Nicky said: “I've lost over four stones but, more than that, I have been with a group of supportive people. I have regained my confidence and now I am starting my own Slimming World group. I would never have imagined ever being able to do something like that.”
Nicky’s class starts tomorrow at 9.30am at Maryport Social Club on Mealpot Road.
