LOVED BIKING: Christopher Denwood, of Ritson Wharf, Maryport

Mr Denwood, 54, of Ritson Wharf, died when his Triumph Spirit motorcycle collided with a large stone sign at Dunmail Raise shortly before 11pm on Saturday, July 21.

He was heading from Ambleside to Keswick and was at the start of a dual carriageway on the A591. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A family tribute, released through Cumbria police, said: “Chris died doing what he loved best – riding his bike on Lake District roads.

“He will be greatly missed by his family and friends following his untimely death.”

Mr Denwood is survived by a brother, two sisters and five nieces and nephews.

Neighbours were stunned at the news of his death this week. They spoke of a very private, shy man but “one of the nicest people you could meet.”

One neighbour said his motorbike was his pride and joy.

She said: “He was always out polishing it and working on it. He loved that bike.”

An inquest into the death was opened last Thursday by coroner David Roberts and adjourned.

Mr Denwood was cremated after a private family service at Distington Crematorium on Monday.

His family asked for donations to be made to Maryport Inshore Rescue.

Mr Denwood was not known to the voluntary rescue organisation but neighbours believed he had enjoyed boating.
