KEEN MOTORCYCLIST: Paul Fursey died in a crash on the A66 near Great Broughton on Tuesday

It is understood that Paul Fursey, 31, was travelling home to Bolton Low Houses on a Yamaha motorcycle after a shift at the Dunmail Park store’s petrol station.

The keen biker had been there for eight months, having transferred from the Barrow store where he worked for seven years.

Police said Mr Fursey died at the scene after his bike was involved in a collision with an MG Rover at the Great Broughton junction, at about 11.25pm on Tuesday.

Mark Munday, duty manager for Asda at Dunmail Park, said colleagues were very upset at the news.

He added: “Paul was a hard worker and very conscientious in his job.

“He is going to be missed by all of his colleagues in the store.”

Mr Fursey’s family paid tribute to a man they said was a “keen motorcyclist with a newly found passion for life”.

In a statement, they said: “It is with great sadness that Paul has so tragically been taken from us.

“Paul loved both home and work life and will be sorely missed by his partner Kath, his mother and his two brothers.”

On social networking website Facebook, his partner, Kath Smith, said: “I lost the love of my life today and my best friend.”

One of Mr Fursey’s brothers is Millom runner Karl Fursey, who regularly takes part in events including the annual Workington to Keswick Charity Walk.

The A66 was closed for nearly four hours while inquiries were carried out.

The car driver, a 23-year-old Dearham man, suffered leg injuries.

Officers from Workington’s roads policing unit have launched an investigation into the crash.

Witnesses are asked to contact police on 101.
