The family of a Maryport motorcyclist who died on the A591 near Thirlmere on Saturday have paid tribute to a man who ‘died doing what he loved best’.
Christopher Roger Denwood, 54, of Ritson Wharf, Maryport was riding a Triumph Sprint when, at about 11pm last Saturday, he collided with a large stone road sign.
The collision occurred on the A591 Dunmail Raise near to Thirlmere Reservoir.
Mr Denwood’s motorcycle was travelling along the A591 from Ambleside towards Keswick when the collision occurred at the start of the dual carriageway at Dunmail Raise.
Mr Denwood was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesman said on behalf of his family: “Chris died doing what he loved best - riding his bike on Lake District roads.
"Chris will be greatly missed by his family and friends following his untimely death.”
An investigation into the collision is ongoing and police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed it to contact Cumbria Constabulary’s Western Roads Policing Unit on 101.
