West Cumbrian haulage firm boss, 46, dies

A Cockermouth haulage firm boss has died aged 46 after a two-year battle with cancer.
Colin Lawson, of Millfield Park, a director at Lawson’s Haulage Ltd on Gote Road, died at the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven, on November 27.
He joined the family business from Derwent School, working alongside father Jim, 76, mother Eileen, 70, brother Raymond, 42, and sister Pauline, 47.
Mr Lawson was described by his family as passionate in his business role. He took pride in driving trucks and handling deliveries.
He studied a course in HGV fitting at Carlisle College and had been chairman of the local branch of the Road Haulage Association Livestock Division.
He was married to Sian and the couple have a daughter, Emilie.
Eileen Lawson said: “He was a kind, honest, caring, family man who loved his job. He enjoyed his life and everything he did.”
He also enjoyed foreign travel.
Sister Pauline added: “He stayed positive and fought as hard as he could to the very end.”
More than 500 people attended his funeral on Saturday at Christ Church and the hearse was followed by his wagon, decorated with flowers.
A wake was held at Hundith Hill Hotel.

Good memories of Colin, grand lad will be sorely missed by many no doubt. Colin was always ready for a good laugh. I had not seen Colin for 20 years but I can still hear him laughing. God Bless his family.
