BACK home in Harrington from the Algerian hostage hell – that was Tony Grisedale yesterday after his amazing escape from under the noses of the terrorists.

Mr Grisedale, of Church Road, recounted how he spent 36 hours hiding from Islamic militants at the Tigantourine gas plant.

The siege dominated world headlines and resulted in the deaths of at least 48 hostages and 32 terrorists, and left three hostages unaccounted for.

Mr Grisedale, 60, had been there for eight days, fitting roll cages to BP vehicles, when the terrorists attacked.

He was in hiding for 36 hours before being rescued by the Algerian army.

This week, back running Church Road Garage, he was modest and reflective about his ordeal.

In his first detailed interview since arriving home on Sunday, Mr Grisedale said: “I don’t really think I’ve done anything special, to be honest, apart from survive.

“There’s nothing brave about my story. Self preservation kicked in and that was it.”
