Seven-year-old Annie-Mae Lea has become a real calendar girl to raise money for Breast Cancer Care and her school.

Annie-Mae, of Alexander Close, Workington, a pupil at St Patrick’s Primary School, drew a picture of herself holding a balloon with the charity’s pink ribbon symbol.

She made the sketch into a 2013 calendar which she sold, along with stones which she painted with the symbol, at a fete held at the Derwent Street school last year.

Annie-Mae raised £50 which will be split between the charity and school funds.

Her family has been affected by breast cancer and she wanted to help others in the same situation.

She said: “I came up with the idea of designing the calendar.

“I wanted to give something back to the charity because they give so much support to people with cancer.”

Her parents John, 41, and Karen, 42, said they were proud of her.

Sheryl Slack, headteacher, said: “She came to see me one day and said ‘I have had an idea’.

“It just moved me that a little girl was so thoughtful and caring.”

The national charity provides information and support for people suffering from breast cancer.
