Cash for road upgrade

MONEY from the use of Allerdale and Derwent and Solway Housing Association land is to be used to upgrade Gatehead Road in Great Clifton.

Allerdale council’s scrutiny committee has agreed to use £50,000 of a £64,000 clawback .

But David Martin, director of partnerships and community, said the council had no legal authority to adopt the road, as some residents wished.

Under the terms of stock transfer in 1999, Allerdale council is entitled to 50 per cent of the proceeds from the granting of any easement by Derwent and Solway under what is known as the transfer clawback agreement. These funds will be used to upgrade the road.
