VILLAGERS have set up a website where people can object to plans for a controversial wind farm between Tallentire and Dearham.

Novera Energy has applied to Allerdale council to build five 105-metre turbines at Fleeter Wood.

But members of Tallentire Area Action Group are against the proposals and are campaigning to stop plans getting the go-ahead.

They have set up a website which allows people to link to the planning application on Allerdale council’s website and lodge an objection.

People can also print off a copy of an objection letter to sign and send to the council.

The action group has he backing of Workington MP Tony Cunningham in its fight to put a halt to plans.

Mr Cunningham wrote to the Minister for Energy, Malcolm Wicks, with the concerns of the local people.

They said that the proposal would result in unacceptable harm to the landscape.

They claim that the wind turbines would be visible from the Lake District national park, the Solway Coast, Cockermouth and Maryport and the cumulative impact would dominate the countryside. Nearby houses would suffer from noise and flicker disturbance.

Mr Cunningham said: “We have got enough turbines and we are more than pulling our weight.

“I have always been against that development, as it is in the wrong place. It is going to be so visible to so many people and we have reached the point where enough is enough.”

• Novera Energy is to hold two open days next week about its plans.

People can have a look at proposals and talk to company representatives at Dovenby Hall and Dearham Village Hall. If planning permission is granted, work will start on the site next year.

The Dovenby meeting is from 2pm to 8pm next Friday and the Dearham meeting from 10am to 4pm next Saturday.
