Club’s CCTV wrangle

MARYPORT Navy Club has been unable to comply with licensing conditions, because of a planning restriction.
The club was told that, as part of its license, it must install CCTV on the club building.
But Allerdale council, which imposed the condition, has refused permission for the CCTV to be erected because the club is a listed building.
Neighbours of the Navy Club appealed to a licensing panel this week to ensure that a camera was erected.
Three residents said cameras could be erected on the entertainment room which had been built on to the Navy Club and was not listed, or on lamp posts outside.
The matter was adjourned to allow all possibilities to be explored.
Panel chairwoman Jacqueline Mounsey said that every effort would be made to ensure that the next hearing would be the last and the situation would be resolved.
