Burger van bother

A DECISION about the future of a Workington burger van which police blame for attracting violence will be made on Wednesday.

The van, run by Wayne Williams, parks at the Udale Street car park at weekends.

The police asked Allerdale council to review Mr Williams’ licence because since July, there have been 18 complaints made for fighting and violence outside the van. People living nearby have also complained.

The authority’s licensing panel deferred a decision on the van’s future last month and requested a site visit to the car park.

But Sue McKenzie, secretary of the Workington and District Taxi Association, said: “The trouble is due to the fact that the car park is beside the Fusion nightclub. Customers spill out onto the car park to wait for taxis home.

“The van reduces the number of people wanting taxis at the same time, reducing even more conflict on the streets and car park.”
