Go-ahead for Workington music festival Nuts In May

A music festival to be held in Workington in May has been given the go-ahead by Allerdale council.
Joanne and Alwyn Braniff want to run the Nuts In May event in woodland at Middlemoor, Stainburn, from May 4 to May 6.
Artists set to play include folk stars Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick, singer-songwriter Nik Kershaw and singer Hazel O'connor.
The council’s licensing panel on Monday considered an application for the festival, which will feature two outdoor stages, four indoor stages, an open mic stage, a campsite, performers including morris dancers, a Maypole and refreshments provided by Weirdigans Organic Cafe.
Simon Kay spoke to the meeting on behalf of Nuts In May Ltd, but councillors also heard from Stainburn couple Mr and Mrs Gillespie and their representative Bob Taylor, who objected on the grounds of noise nuisance and public safety.
Councillors granted a licence for the event.
Other acts confirmed are Emma’s Imagination, The Magic Tombolinos, MJ Hibbett & The Validators, and Mad Dog Mcrea.

Have your say
its about time somebody pulled the plug on it, living 8miles away and only thing you can hear is that racket they should be a cut off point for the music to stop but its still going at 12.40am 07,05,12, why do they always seem to have these things near to where people live can they not find a field in the middle of nowhere. after going to stainburn for fuel the other night kids running across the roads and adults taking to the hedges for a toilet, its awful
Great news, another festival pulling in great music and people to Workington. As to the comments about "getting sick of hearing about it" you need to push it to get people to come, you should appreciate that Festival Fan :)
