Information requests cost Cockermouth council thousands

A Cockermouth man who inundated the town’s council with Freedom of Information requests and tried to take it to court has cost taxpayers more than £1,500.

Have your say

I say good on him!! - Holding our officals to account. They're just scared the information he asks for will cause a scandal.

Ronald O'Hapsburg: The applicant went to court - that is a public place where details are in the public domain. Perhaps you will retract your scurrilous allegation as you clearly have not a clue what you are talking about.

So can I make a FIA application to see how much money and time he's wasted and what the money would have gone to had he not been such a non-public spirited individual? Clearly he needs to get a hobby!

@ Ronald. His name is public as a consequence of his own actions. He had to disclose his name in order to seek a judicial review.

There has been no breach of privacy what so ever.

@ D. I agree entirely. This person should be ashamed of himself not just for the cost the tax payer has to bare for his unjust and selfish acts but for the shear miserable pettiness of it all.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the case, it's surely a great concern that somebody (at the council, presumably) has leaked the identity of a Freedom of Information applicant. Might this be a breach of the Data Protection Act 1998?

This is the type of person that deserves an asbo!
