Are you tired of dodging dog mess when you walk down the street?
Join the Times & Star in our bid to clean up the streets – and tell irresponsible dog owners there’s no messing!
We have teamed up with Allerdale council to highlight the problem.
The council this week launched a new crackdown on those owners who fail to pick up dog mess.
We want you to report dog mess to us to help the council identify hotspots so it can mount extra warden patrols.
Alan Smith, council leader, said: “It is the subject I receive the most complaints about so we are focusing our resources on tackling the scourge of dog fouling. Enough is enough.
“There’s no excuse if there is no bin available – take it home and put it in your refuse bin.”
Workington Juniors Football Club, who play on pitches at the Ranch off Mossbay Road, said they were in talks to have a new fence erected to keep dog walkers off their pitch.
Nigel Curwen, coach of the U10s, said referees often had to delay matches while dog mess was cleaned up.
He said: “It’s a bit of a nightmare. The dog walkers should have more respect.”
Councillor Michael Heaslip said: “It’s time for a new approach. People need to be aware that we are taking action to tackle irresponsible dog walkers.”

The waste ground used as a footpath between Lonsdale View and Newlands Park is nothing more than a dog fouling corridor, and a dumping ground for used dog fouling bags. It is never monitored or maintained.

Im surprised no one has mentioned Flimby - EVERY road in the village is caked in the disgusting stuff. Dogs wander about with no collars or owners & are left to filth up the place as they please. Ive even had it all over my own front garden!!! Disgusting, irresponsible morons - the owners need fined on the spot.
