The opening of the new Camerton bridge has been delayed by bad weather.

The bridge, linking the village with Great Clifton, was due to open today but high river levels have stopped the completion of cladding work.

A site visit will be held today to assess the work left to be done and get a clearer idea of a new opening date.

Meanwhile, the final pieces of Workington’s temporary road bridge will leave the town tomorrow.

The structure is going to Cornwall to be used while maintenance is carried out on a bridge there.

Work will now be done to reinstate the banks on both sides of the River Derwent where the bridge was removed and to complete footways between the river and Northside Road.

Work is also being done to alter drainage at the roundabout near Tesco.

Resurfacing of Black Path is expected to start next week.

The work is due to be complete by December 21, depending on the weather.

The temporary road bridge was put in place in April 2010 after the 2009 floods severed road links.

Work to remove it began last month after the new Northside Bridge was opened by the Princess Royal.
