No logic to festival parking

MARGARET Bremner is right when she questions the logic of the part closure of the Lakes car park during the week of Words by the Water (letters, March 21).
For me, apart from Christmas and a few other occasions, this week is the highlight of my year.
In this precious week Allerdale probably hosts more people of national and international repute than at any other time.
Therefore the festival should be made attractive, as Ms Bremner says to attract as many people from outside the area to spend money that the borough so desperately needs.
About three years ago, after a particularly frustrating attempt to park, I wrote to all the relevant borough councillors suggesting that a highly visible parking pass could be provided that festival goers could buy in advance to make parking easier.
Sadly, few councillors even bothered to reply. I was not asking for a reduction in parking fees, just a way of making parking a little bit simpler.
In the end I received a highly complicated letter from an official who almost triumphantly told me why this was not possible.
It would be wonderful if one day as well as putting up new signs in borough car parks telling us how grateful we should be for all the services Allerdale can afford because of parking fines, they indulged in some joined up thinking and helped us all celebrate this glorious week in its calendar.
