Player sponsorship boost for Workington Town

Workington Town begin their 2013 campaign at Swinton Lions on Sunday (3pm ko) with all of the club’s players sponsored.

And that hasn’t been seen before the first game of the season at Derwent Park for many years.

Commercial manager Barry Scholey said: “The demand for the player sponsorship packages has been absolutely fantastic. Some are businesses and individuals who have sponsored players in previous season, and the number of enquiries greatly outweighed the number of players we have.

“So I’d like to thank them all for their generous support.”

To add to that, as part of the refurbishment of Derwent Park, the new facia on the popular side gives additional advertising space which will be filled with in excess of 20 new advertising boards.

Scholey added: “The local businesses have been absolutely fantastic and very receptive to supporting Town for the coming season.

“Obviously, playing at a higher level means increased costs which have to be balanced with additional revenue, and the support of these businesses has allowed us to improve our squad for the coming season.

“We also have a waiting list for the kit sponsorship for next season, so the step up to a higher level has certainly led to an increase in demand. Hopefully, the attendances will increase to the same degree to help us continue our progress on and off the field.”
