Security guard locked up by men in balaclavas during Cumbria raid

A gang of balaclava-clad men threatened a security guard during a raid in west Cumbria this morning.

The guard was not hurt but was locked in a shed on the Clay Flatts Trading Estate, Workington, to stop him raising the alarm.

Police - who were alerted at about 4am - say the guard was threatened "with a high level of violence" by several men who were wearing balaclavas and boiler suits.

"It is still very early in the investigation and some details remain unclear.

"At this stage it would appear that a Portakabin has been entered but nothing of value is known to have been stolen at this stage," said a force spokesman.

It is believed the intruders used a grey Isuzu Trooper vehicle - registration N91 FSW - during the raid.

It was stolen from the Flimby area last night and was found this afternoon at Northside in Workington.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident or the vehicle to call them on 101 or via Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
