Football girl Sammie McGarry has won a Cumberland FA award.
And the Seaton and England player is the first female to be given the Bob Turner Award.
Turner was heavily involved in local football with Gosforth FC and Windscale FC and was chairman of the West Cumberland League (now the Tesco Cumberland League).
He was a member of the Cumberland FA council from 1975 and he was chairman at the time of his death in September 2006.
Turner’s family donated the trophy and requested that it be awarded for outstanding achievements in football in Cumbria.
McGarry, a pupil at Stainburn School, has been a member of Cumbria’s centre of excellence and is the county’s first female to represent England at international level.
She has played for England U15 and is now part of the England U17 training squad.
