CUMBRIAN super league legend Kyle Amor is ‘excited’ to mark the biggest event in his testimonial year as the month countdown begins to the Cumbria game.

Whitehaven-born St Helens star Amor will play alongside other Cumbrians in his final ever game at the LEL Arena, Whitehaven, this October as he prepares to retire from Rugby League.

The countdown is on for the game which will see Cumbria play Wales on October 13 (7.30pm) and has previously been said to give a real test to the Welsh team.

Speaking about the game Amor said: “Obviously it’s been a long year but we’ve got a lot of plans in place. We have got a lot of Cumbrian-based people who are backing this game in the shirt sponsors.

“Whitehaven has been fantastic, the amateur clubs have got behind it and sold some tickets in-house, everything is heading in the right direction for it.

“We’re really excited to announce the squad next week. We had 37 players all put their hands up, but when speaking to Jonty Gorley, Paul Crarey and David Seeds the coaches, we have decided on a 27 man squad which will be cut down to a 21 man squad on the week of the game.

"It will be disappointing for nine of those players but the coaches are seeing this as a way to kick on and keep supporting Cumbrian rugby league from last year- it was a great night at Derwent Park, we want to try and replicate something and if not go a bit further.

“A lot of super league players, top-end Championship players are putting their hands up to play which is great and we just want to keep improving and building on Cumbrian rugby league. It’s important that fans of the game get to see quality rugby, and hopefully Friday the 13th will be another night for that.”

Tickets have been launched from the game via online service Skiddle, as well as being available from Sportzone in Whitehaven.

Kyle said: “We want to make tickets as accessible as we can to people so we’ve started using Skiddle as just an easier way of doing it, and then on the night it just allows the whole process to be smoother.”
