Three-try Distington defeat Maryport

DISTINGTON beat Maryport 18-4 in the John Smiths Cumberland League division one.

Gavin Martin scored a try and a goal and Paul Gale, Sean Sutton and Grant Dryden each added touchdowns. Patrick Vaughan crossed for the visitors.

Wath Brow Hornets won 22-14 at champions Seaton, whose young players continue to impress in a rebuilding season.

Rangers were 14-6 ahead at half-time thanks to tries by John Bank and Andy McGlasson, with Duncan Moyles adding three goals.

But Hornets upped the tempo in the second period, taking the lead with a try and two goals by David Byers, supported by touchdowns from Ryan Collett, Dale Bell and Phil Coyles.

The fixture between Hensingham and Broughton Red Rose was postponed because of an unfit pitch.

Glasson were held to 10-10 at half-time by bottom side Great Clifton but then had the better of the second period to register a 20-10 victory with tries by Daniel Stott, Scott Burns, James Topliss and Richard Herbert, two of which Craig Hamilton improved. Michael Hill and Mark Fox replied for Clifton and Nick Burgess converted one effort.

Cockermouth have joined Wigton at the top of division two thanks to an 18-16 home win over Lowca in which Craig Kippax contributed a try and three goals and Mark McMillan and John Patrick added touchdowns. Carl Ennis, Steve Smye and David Scott replied for the visitors and Keith Campbell kicked a couple of goals.

It was close, too, at Salterbeck who pipped Frizington 16-14 through a try and two goals for Lee Jardine and touchdowns by Liam Wilson and Ross Cope. Frizington's response involved a try and a goal by Wayne Burns and touchdowns for Peter Fowler and Graham Gilpin.
