Clifton play

GREAT Clifton amateur rugby league club believe they are back on track after fielding a full complement of 17 players for last Saturday’s Cumberland League clash with Glasson.
Bottom club Clifton went down to a spirited 20-10 defeat, but officials were happy merely to be able to field a full side after the previous week’s game against Ellenborough was called off when only 10 Clifton players made themselves available.
Club spokesman Mark Jones said: “Everyone was buzzing and we could have won the game.
“It was great. I think we’ll be all right now. We had a meeting where a few home truths were put on the table, and the players responded well.”
Clifton are almost certain to be relegated after being docked three points for failing to face Ellenborough.
And the final nail in the coffin probably came on Friday night when next-to-bottom Wath Brow beat champs Seaton, though Clifton realise that relegation may not be a disaster for the club.
Jones said: “We will regroup and it will be better for the younger one. They will hopefully find it a lot easier than division one.”
The Hornets now head Clifton, who have a couple of games in hand, by five points at the foot of division one.
Clifton train from 6.30pm on Wednesdays. All are welcome.
