REIGNING champions Seaton gave their hopes of forcing their way into the Top Four play-offs of the Cumberland first division a boost with a compelling 46-6 verdict over Glasson Rangers.
Rangers, whose points came from a Richard Herbert try and Craig Hamilton goal, were only 14-6 adrift at the break.
But Seaton’s rampant youngsters took over completely in the second period.
Calvin Phillips helped himself to a hat-trick of tries and Paul Hopper bagging a brace. Duncan Moyle scored a try and five goals and Andy McGlasson, Stephen Hodgson and Richard George touched down.
Two other sides bidding for the play-offs, Distington and Broughton Red Rose, met and the honours went to Distington, who prevailed 10-6 after leading 8-0 at half-time through a try by Gavin Martin and two Clayton Sutton goals.
Another Sutton penalty came in handy when the Rose bounced back with a Richard Campbell touchdown and Mark Walker conversion.
David Dickinson grabbed the limelight as league leaders Kells took on Maryport.
Dickinson ran in five sparkling tries in a 62-10 victory during which Kells’ 100 per cent record never looked in doubt.
Barry Boyd and Carl Schofield both crossed twice while Tony Burns, Stephen Kirkbride and Ryan McGuinness powered over and Ryan Robb contributed seven goals. Maryport’s response involved tries for Keiran McCracken and Andrew Cartwright, one of which Andrew Cartwright converted.
The fixtures at Great Clifton and Wath Brow Hornets, where Hensingham and Ellenborough were to have been the respective visitors, fell victim to unfit pitches, as did the Dale Campbell Savours Cup games Maryport A v Salterbeck Storm and Cockermouth v Wigton.
Salterbeck A rose off the bottom of division two with a 54-16 victory over Frizington in which David Bates grabbed a hat-trick of tries, Kris Wilkinson and Ross Thompson both crossed twice, and Daniel Riddick, Andrew Besusko and Robert Scott touched down. David Blain kicked seven goals.
Frizington were only 20-12 behind at half-time but had to settle for two tries by Peter Fowler and an Ian Johnston touchdown, two of which Wayne Burns improved.
The Dale Campbell Savours tie that beat the elements closed in Flimby’s favour, Lowca losing 20-16 after being unable to convert any of the tries scored by Dean Morgan, who bagged a brace, Dave Colley and John Hughes also scored.
Andrew Pearce, by contrast, landed two goals for Flimby in addition to crossing the whitewash. Graham Thompson scored two tries for the home side and Luke Grima also crashed over.
